Description

Norwegian cardamom rolls, or sjokoladeboller, are a delightful treat that combines the warm spice of cardamom with rich chocolate.   • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • Pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk and sprinkle yeast with a teaspoon of sugar; let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, cardamom, and salt. Create a well in the center; add melted butter and eggs.
  3. Mix until combined, then knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread melted butter on top, and sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  6. Roll tightly from one edge and slice into 12 pieces; place in a greased baking dish.
  7. Cover again to rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and hollow when tapped.
